چکیده
Abstract Background Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith), or fall armyworm, is one of major migratory agricultural pests with a wide range hosts. The effect different hosts (maize and kidney bean) on the growth reproduction S. were investigated using age-stage, two-sex life table method. Results results showed that could complete its entire cycle both hosts, albeit significantly development reproduction. durations larval pupal prolonged whereas adult lifespan was shortened bean compared to maize. differences survival rates at each instar, prepupal stages between two not statistically significant. total pre-oviposition period longer than maize (42.05 vs 39.04 days), but there no difference in oviposition rate (64.77 62.48 maize). net reproductive rate, intrinsic increase finite nonsignificant, while mean generation time days) (40.92 days). Conclusions indicate can grow reproduce normally although more suitable. Nonetheless, data show this pest harmful when population density high preferred host scarce. Graphic abstract

age-stage, two-sex life table of helicoverpa armigera (lepidoptera: noctuidae) on different bean cultivars
the cotton bollworm, helicoverpa armigera (hübner), is one of the important polyphagous pests causing serious loss to many economically important crops in iran. the goal of this experiment was to study the age-stage, two-sex life table of h. armigera on different bean cultivars including white kidney bean (cultivars daneshkadeh, pak, and shokufa), red kidney bean (cultivars akhtar, naz, and say...
متن کاملMortality Dynamics of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Immatures in Maize
We characterized the dynamics of mortality factors affecting immature developmental stages of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Multiple decrement life tables for egg and early larval stages of S. frugiperda in maize (Zea mays L.) fields were developed with and without augmentative releases of Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) from...
متن کاملHistological and Histochemical Changes by Clove Essential Oil Upon the Gonads of Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Spodoptera frugiperda is a polyphagous insect that causes economic losses to several crops in Brazil and is the major obstacle to corn production. Researches focusing on alternative control, e.g. botanical products are expanding to offer a wide variety of molecules that interfere with different biological parameters of insect pests. Thus, this study tested the hypothesis that clove essential oi...
متن کاملSpatial analysis of the distribution of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and losses in maize crop productivity using geostatistics.
The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), is one of the chief pests of maize in the Americas. The study of its spatial distribution is fundamental for designing correct control strategies, improving sampling methods, determining actual and potential crop losses, and adopting precise agricultural techniques. In São Paulo state, Brazil, a maize field was sampled at weekly intervals, ...
